not for nothin'
by Bill McCallum on Dec 13, 2006 03:37:29
Common big house or camp preface to a piece of advice or a warning. Its use is supposed to imply the speaker is neither
bossing around nor threatening the hearer, only offering
sage advice or a
pithy observation. In practice, however, it is often used immediately before a verbal threat to another inmate.
Example:
Not for nothin', but your cellie is a straight-up rat. I saw him talkin' to the
5-O right after that bust up where they
lugged those dudes to solitary.

nothin' but the rent
by SteveRos on Jun 25, 2005 16:20:58
Originally (early 70s or so), a standard
cliched response to the question "What's up?". Then, in the late 80s/
early 90s, a new generation misunderstood the origin of the response so that it soon became the standard reply to similar questions, such as "
How ya doin'?" or "What's goin' on?"
Example:
Original:
Dude 1:
What's up, man?
Dude 2: You know, nothin' but the rent.
Later:
Dude 1: Hey, man,
how you doin'?
Dude 2:
Aw, nothin' but the rent, man.

nothin' but green
by DJ Steve on Sep 30, 2006 08:20:23
similar to it's all good, can be a generic term for a feeling a well being, or success Used for more specific situations, this term seems to have become spontaneously popular among NFL stars in the 2006 NFL season. It may be related to the notion of running backs or receivers, or pass
interceptors, or kick returned
breaking tackles with nothin' but green ahead of them to the end zone. It may also have a double meaning for those same running backs or receivers who are looking forward to nothin' but green at contract time as in
show me the money
source - I heard this on two local radio stations from 2 different NFL players. Heard at work by one 'regular person'
Example:
Q: How's it goin? A:
Nothin' but green, dog.
Situational - breaking the last tackle -
NOTHIN' BUT GREEN ahead (refers to the field color)
Q: How are contract negotiations going? A: Nothin' but green, man.
Q: Did you
close the deal? A: Nothin' but green, boss.
