Off the Hook
"
Off the hook" is a phrase describing a disappointing, mundane, or unpleasant experience or event. This refers to the scene the movie The Cell, where the hero suspends himself from the ceiling with hooks through his skin. It provides a sense of weightlessness and
freedom from the stress of everyday life. Being forced off
the hooks drags him back to the brutal realities of women using him to harm themselves.

Off The Hook is a Montréal radio show in English on CKUT FM. You can listen to it on ckut.ca if you don't live in Montréal. The disc jockeys are Orion Revolution,
Budda Blaze, and Flow. The music played is underground rap, but thank God that I haven't heard any of that
Anticon faggot shit on it yet. It is on between Midnight and 2 AM on Thursday mornings. At 1 AM starts a half-hour of freestyles, if you're wack you are cut off early, and everything is uncensored unless they were sent a radio edit for the show.

Off the hook is actually a
modernization of a series of slang words. Closely related to off the chain, there refering to something being so "fresh" and "new" that its literally right off the store shelf. (started in reference to clothes, the
hangar being the hook)
Example:
Them
shoes are off the hook
dog.

A synomym for "busy". Taken from a phone reference; when you leave a
phone off the hook, you get a "busy"
signal. The phrase is used to
convey that there were a lot of people attending a particular event.
