Selfing
verb - when a person acts for one’s self and/or one’s people as best one can with the tools available with neither selfless or selfish intentions thereby removing positive and negative connotations from the choices made and thereby creating a third option which takes relativism into account. Selfing is the process by which one pursues their personal and community well-being while functioning in social and physical life that does not ignore large and same scale ethical challenges as one tries to do the best they can with the tools available to them.

The field of psychology attempts to define it with circular definitions. The truth is, we don't really know how to define self... not objectively at least.
