A fan of anime. Simple, isn't it? Just to clear some things up:

An anime Fan is not an otaku: Otaku refers to a loner who bases their life around a work of ficion of any kind and loses track of reality because of it.

An Anime Fan is not Nesisarily a fanboy/girl: They don't have to be that annoying :P

Not all female anime fans like yaoi: Some do, some don't. Simple right?

An anime Fan is not a weeaboo: A weeaboo is obbsessed with Japan, not neesesarily anime. They like pocky. Yes, anime Fans know the terminology of anime. But then sci fi fans know about their fandom, and for that matter furrys, fantasy fans, goths, and every one else knows little things about their interests. Although they know some japanese things from anime, they like it for the anime, not the references.

There are different types of anime (and thus it's fans): Shoujo, Shonen, Seinen, and yaoi being a few.

Someone who only watches hentai isn't an anime fan: They are a pervert.

Anybody that loves anime is an anime fan. That person is NOT an otaku unless if he/she is really an anti-social type. No one is too old or too young to be an anime fan... They can be cool, popular, nerds, simpleton and etc but when anime fans meet together, there is always something to talk about..

The fans, enthusiasts and followers of anime and manga are anime fans. Despite this simple explanation, there are actually subcategories for this group.

1. Anime fans that are rational, logical and realizes that anime and manga are just hobbies, fictional characters and entertainment. These tend to be most friendly of the fans and can start friendly conversations with just about anyone.

2. Anime fans that are miserable, probably have pathetic lives outside of this hobby and are never happy or satisfied. These will usually unload complaint after complaint about a certain series or character such as complaining that this character is too much of a wuss or that character is too overpowered.

3. Anime fan boys. These tend to believe that their series and characters are the best and unbeatable. Tends to be most common with fans of the Holy Shounen Trinity.

4. Anime fans that treat their series as a religion, these tend to have characteristics that overlap with fanboyism and cults. Any negative criticism about their favorite series will be met with a negative, angry response. They virtually worship the characters as gods and treat the manga or anime as a religious text.

5. Anime fans that are otaku. These tend to collect tons of figures of their favorite characters and rooms worth of manga and anime. This is also where they take their hobby to new extremes of stupidity. They have an extreme, sometimes perverse or sexual, obsession with their favorite series or characters.

Totally Japan-fixated, antisocial, skinny white people. Generally exhibits one or more of the following traits:
Thick glasses
A Japanese-English Dictionary
A DDR Pad for the PSII (to practice at home)
Long, greasy hair

Cancer.
They are literal cancer.

They obsess over Japan like its some sort of god or something which is NOT.

There are 192 countries in the world(not counting japan vatican or fakestine) other than Japan but they too dumb to realize.

Most likely bullied people for liking it when they were younger, but now since its popular they’ve “been a fan” or “been wanting to watch it”

People that only watch anime because it's now mainstream and people that only watch 2 shows and call themselves a fan. Fake anime fans usually do the following:

Have an 80s anime character as their pfp, yet cant name what anime they're from.

bully you for liking anime but have an anime pfp online

bully you for liking anime but a few years later, now that it's popular they act like they've been hardcore fans for ages but can only name 3 anime

ONLY watch shonen. they only watch One piece, MHA Shit slayer etc.

The type of people to bandwagon from the anime hype without actually watching any because they know it's popular. they claim on twitter that they like anime but never mention anime again. usually seen from desperate females that want attention. I just don’t like people being cunts and riding on trends with which they would have otherwise dissociated or they would have derided

if you only watch action or shonen anime, dont call yourself an anime fan. You're a SHOUNEN fan, not an anime fan. Anime fans actually watch anime from a variety of genres.

It's so weird that anime is mainstream now. I'm happy that it's popular, now people get to enjoy the masterpieces of anime, but at the same time I hate that all these people are watching anime. They don't enjoy it like a real fan would. They only dip their toes into the pool that is anime and it fucking sucks when you know there is shit that deserves to be watched and appreciated.
Gate keeping is good.

1. A fan of Japanese animation (anime) that will only watch the original versions of the animations. They will not watch it in any other language (dubs). Usually they will watch the anime with subtitles. They absolutely hate and loathe any and all dubs, and classify them as abominations. It doesn't matter the level of talent the dubbing team has. It seems they hate anything that has their native language, and will often speak and type with a strange mix of their native tongue and improperly used Japanese. They pride themselves in only importing their anime from Japan and will never purchase anime from their national distributer. However, these types of fans are often guilty of illegally downloading anime with fan translated subs from the internet. Due to this, they are stuck with the translations from whatever fan group did the translating job. Because these groups are not professionals, the translations are often times more inaccurate than the dubs they despise (different groups will often have vastly different translations for the same anime). They also will mock anyone who watches any anime they deem inferior. They refer to themselves as "real" anime fans, "true" otakus, or purists. Other anime fans think of them as snobs or pretentious pricks.

2. Any person who likes many different anime. This person will watch both versions of an anime (dubbed and original) before making a balanced decision of which one they like better. Often times these people will have animations in which they prefer the original and animations in which they prefer the dub. Or sometimes they will find that they like both equally. They like a wide range of different anime from popular favorites to obscure ones. They would watch an anime they liked even if no one else liked it. They try to avoid being biased and judgemental and will welcome any new anime fan into the fold. They rarely refer to themselves as real anime fans because it seems egotistical, and they are humble.
