A racial group created by the U.S. government to put all people who descend from Spanish speaking countries into one meaningless group. Hispanic is NOT a racial group. They can be white, black, native american, asian, or any combination of these peoples. Hispanic countries are just as racially diverse as the United States, thus this term has no real meaning.

a word created by the united States Census Bureau that is now commonly used to lump spanish speaking people into one broad category, for better or WORSE. Also this word was incorrectly used today by the officer who decided to identify my "race" on the speeding ticket he gave me.
Example:
Officer, without asking me, you wrote down that I was hispanic, but actually I am South Asian.

Someone who is from any spanish speaking country. Not to be confused with latino, which is actually different. A latino is someone from latin america, a hispanic is someone from any spanish speaking country (Like the spanish speaking countries in europe.) The definition varies in different places though.
Example:
Guy1: I come from Mexico, so I am hispanic and latino.
Guy2: I'm from Spain so i'm hispanic.

noun: As you can see, this word was not made up by the US government, but it has Latin -as in the language romans used- roots.
Hispanic reffers to everything that's related with the culture, language and people of the former roman province of Hispania: what is Spain & Portugal right now, and Spanish & Portuguese as it's languages.
It doesn't specify any race, it relates to the descent. In most part, any person born in South-America in the last 400 years carry genes of the SouthWestern-Europe colonizers (Spain & Portugal in most part, with some small colonies from the Netherlands & France), but yet Spain & Portugal born people are mostly a mix of Mediterranean ethnicity, and Latin-American born are a mix of that with original Amerindian descent.

Hispanic culture is very rich because it's diversity, and one of the most clear characteristics of it is patriotism, Hispanics are proud of what they are. There are more common characteristics that can be identified in Hispanics.
Example:
"Carlos is born in Argentina, but he doesn't look hispanic."
(Argentina was a common migration point from Spanish population during the civil war and later on)
"Hispanics are very charming"
(Normal Hispanic families puts a big effort in educating kids to be like this, for one reason or another)
"Hispanics make good lovers"
(Amerindian culture had a strong belief that women were divine, in opposition to Anglo-Saxon culture that was rather discriminating agains women in the most part. This may have "touched" things as time has passed.)

"Paula is from Madrid, so she's Hispanic"
"Ricardo is from Mexico, so he's Hispanic"
"Because Paula is from Spain, it doesn't mean she's a latina, but Ricardo IS a latin."

A term commonly used by people of Latin American descent living in the United States Of America.This term was created not only by the U.S goverment,but,by Mexicans and Puerto Ricans,since in those times they we're the majority.It was a term created to not only separate themselves has being racially "white",but,to pursue justice.In the late 60's hispanics would be segregated by the anglos,they would be allowed to buy food in restaurants,but we'rent allow to stay and eat in the restaurant.Since Hispanics we're seeing has white,legally,they could'nt claim they we're racially discriminated against;the term Hispanic created many legal opportunities for spanish speaking americans.Hispanics now in days are considered a new "race",wether or not they're a race is up for debate;seeing has the term "race" has so many loose ends,varies from society to society,and has lost it's original scientific context.
Example:
A dark skinned man commits a crime,he is booked and taken to the precint.In his paperwork his race is defined has "Hispanic",for the simple fact that he comes from Colombia,and that he is a spanish speaker.
