it pains me to say that im the first person to write a decent definition for this great man. ------------Joe Strummer (born John Grahm Mellor) was/is the vocalist for one of the most important bands in punk rock The Clash. With a leftist political view and a reggae influence, The Clash rose to the top. The Clash broke up in the late 1980's and Strummer went on to a solo career. In 1995 or so, Joe strummer signed onto Hellcat records with a backing band called The Mescaleros, releasing fourl albums before his death on December 22, 2002

The Fact that I am the first person to write a definition for Joe Strummer is crying shame. Frontman of the greatest punk band ever to play, The Clash, and later the lead singer of Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros, Joe Strummer, while widely regarded all over the world is still amazingly underrated. More influentual than John Lennon or any other musician, Joe Strummer is quite simply "God."

One of the greatest people who ever has or ever will walk the face of this earth. He was a musician, a political activist, and an all around great guy. Born John Graham Mellor on August 21, 1952. Fronted one of the greatest bands of all time, The Clash. After their breakup, he went on to have a solo career and work in film. In 1999, he formed Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, a great band. He died on December 22, 2002, at the age of 50. It just goes to show, only the good die young. RIP.

Born John Graham Mellor on August 21, 1952 in Turkey.

He gave himself the name Joe Strummer because although he was left handed, he learned to play guitar on a right handed guitar, therefor he could only do the strumming chords.

Pre-1977, Joe was in bands such as The Vultures and The 101ers.

However, he is best known for his work in the punk rock band, The Clash. He wrote most of the lyrics, and shared vocal duties with co-band member Mick Jones. The Clash lasted from 1977 to 1985. They released several great records, most notably "London Calling".

In 1995, Joe signed onto Hellcat records with his group, Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.

Joe died on December 22, 2002 of heart complications.

In my opinion Joe is one of the greatest musicians of all-time, and was a really great guy. RIP Joe
