When one takes on the personality of a professor and proceeds to forcefully lecture someone on an issue of which they believe they are the resident expert in, but in which they possess no knowledge or experience.Generally becomes more pronounced with intoxication or during male bonding sessions. Often the phrase "I'll give you the hot tip..." is a precursor to an episode of proffing.
