When your son tells you he
volunteered to go back to
Syria for 9 months-after spending over $4 grand at strip clubs in
2 days

Completely
dumbfounded speechlessastounded. From the Irish/Scottish/
Northern England word "
gob" meaning "mouth".
I think it comes from the action of clapping your hand over your mouth when you are utterly surprised to the extent that you are unable to speak.

To be completely
dumbfounded or
shocked. That I know of, its origins are Irish.
I have know idea what a "
gob" is or why it is common practice to smack somebody with one when they are shocked.
It seems like a rude thing to do, though.

A stupid word that was made up whilst
playing a game of "Catchphrase". The contestant was
adamant it was a word, the quiz-master didn't think so and said no. The contestant then went into a massive
sulk over it and still believes it is a word to this day.
