The act of intentionally bumping another person's shoulder with your own shoulder as you walk past them. It is meant as a display of open aggression or simple disrespect depending on how roughly the shoulder check is performed.

When two strangers bump shoulders while walking past each other as a result of neither being aware or courteous enough to move, or simply not having enough room to do otherwise.

Example:
Amanda was trying to get to class, and ended up shoulder-checking people in the hallway as she hurried to get there in time.
