Du Rag

Name given to me by a certain group of peers who attend my school. This name was given to me after I attempted to wear a du rag during the school day.

A garment of thin material worn around the head to avoid discomfort and irratation from hat or helmet. Worn by burly construction workers and athletes alike.
Example:
"Hey Ryan that Du Rag looks really comfy and if You don't mind me saying, makes you look even more handsome." Said Tom.

A silk-like material worn around the head of black males as a fashion statement. It wraps around the skull, with a small flap hanging down in the rear, over the neck.

Du Rags originated in prisons in the 1970's, to try and simulate the long hair of a (male)female inmate, so the (male) males, could easily tell them apart. It was originally black, but many colors are in use today.

Now banned in most prisons of today,
Du Rags have moved into main stream black fashion, and the use no longer signifies any sexual connotations. Court cases in New York City have supported the use of Du rags at work, when employers complained that it was not "appropriate". Black men have even been seen in a business suit, coming from work, wearing a du rag. Bald Black men (with no braids) also wear du rags. A du rag, under a baseball cap, it also gaining popularity.

The word derivation is "Hairdoo rag"
Example:
Did you see Jamal? He look fly in his Du rag.

1. A sheer, sheen fitted cloth, usually in solid colors, designed to protect hair that has been processed, or chemically bamboozled, in fades, waves or gumby's
2. A swash of rayon or silk worn on the head as a symbol of working people deciding to wear something usually found in the house, outta the house.
3. Something the NFL is afraid of because they think it evokes thuggery, gangs and general street ghetto crunk.
4. Towelette for wiping grass in the early morn.
Example:
"Constance, that du-rag on your head is connecting with my sense of cultural pride, and as well, keeping the expensive hair products from soiling your pillow. Dang!?"

A head wrap similar to a stocking cap but only has an extra piece to it origionally used to keep hair in style to keep hair flat,get waves...etc Now mostly used for style
Example:
"Yo let me borrow that black du rag so i can rock it with my spurs jersey son"

"iam going to keep my du rag on so i can have my waves ready for tonight"

Today's atire for a "Gangsta". It is a piece of cloth, usually polyester or silk. Tie it on your head and either leave the back flyin' or tied up. A favorite for WankStas, but real gangsters wear it too. Make sure to know which you are messing with before you do.
Example:
When my Du Rag comes off, my fro pops out.
My hair goes through the Du Rag.

A polyester garment that is worn on the head in order to keep the hair fresh and create waves in the hair. In every color, pattern and style. Also it is a popular trend between everyone and there is always someone wearing one everyone, on the block, tv, etc., especially around African Americans
Example:
50 Cent is known for always wearing his du-rag where ever he goes. I like to wear my du-rag in order to be cool.Some ladies love aman in a du-rag In order to get waves you must wear a du-rag.
