God-Damn Independent: term used by college students to refer to a non-Greek student. In a derogatory sense, it is used to refer only to those who choose to bash the Greek system. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible for Greeks and GDIs to be friends.
Example:
Despite the party's location on Greek Row, many of the people who showed up were GDIs.

Acronym for "God Damn Independent," often used in a derogatory way to refer to a college student who chooses not to join any sorority or fraternity.

Seems to be used in a derogatory way the most by people affiliated with the 'Greek' system because they do not realize that 'independent' really isn't even an insult. Typical brainless, follow-the-crowd, frat people. Damn, frats and sororities are like cults. People go in fine and come out brainwashed, dumb, and/or slutty. IF they ever come out.
Example:
Vic: What's your title?

Sam: What?

Vic: You know, what frat are you in?

Sam: Oh, I'm a GDI.

Vic: Wow, I really think you should go Greek.

Sam: You know, they're not even really Greek. They just jacked the Greek letters and twisted them to use in their half-assed, drunk-partying organizations. I only rushed for the free food. You'd have to pay me to join one.

Vic: Why don't you join?

Sam: Um, it costs money I can't afford to waste, I can make friends on my own time, I don't really want to be saddled with people I don't like, I don't like to do pointless shit, and I don't like how they always call each other 'big' and 'little.' It's hella annoying. Oh, and I don't really like to conform.

Vic: What's 'conform?'

Sam: *sigh*

Gamer Defense Initiative, otherwise and predominantly known as the GDI, is a group of centralized gamers originating from the mobile app, TikTok, they gained their infamy after a fake-virtual war known as "Furry War 2", before that, in "Furry War 1" they weren't necessarily grouped together or fighting as one "Military", Gamers- as usual, reigned victorious on the mobile app, and a lot of Furries left the app due to the "toxic" nature. They've come a long way since those days and are now dominantly active on their discord server, which is accessed via discord.gg/gdi.

Whist they still roam TikTok, the platform has moved away from the irony of "fake gamer wars", as well as irony in general. TikTok has now taken it's foothold in the world as an app for influencers, dancers, etc...

The GDI is ran by their founder & original leader, Oatmealz, along with his right-hand man, Kry.

(God Damn Independent). A college student who is not an active or a pledge to a particular sorority or fraternity. The GDI has either chosen to not affiliate with the greeks or maybe rushed and did not pledge. GDI's tend to have a reputation of being dorm rats but some GDIs are cool and have some greek friends. Just depends on the particular GDI. Being titled a GDI should not judge who someone is, its just a decision.

Essentially indicates that there is nothing for which Greek people cannot come up with a particular label.

Fabulous at being apparently unable to handle ambiguity or individuality of any variety, the term GDI is a universal label applied to all college students who choose not to participate in the Greek system.

Whether the apparent obsession with labeling everything belies rampant intellectual laziness, extreme insecurity expressed in a fear of what is "different" from a certain perspective, or both is an open question.

Either way, the same mentality extends beyond the categorization of the college social structure to brand names (are you a Chanel girl? an Abercrombie man? an Alpha-Delta-Zeta or a Kappa-Gamma-Blamma?), and beyond that to even more insidious forms of labeling, such as racism.

However, it all likely comes down to extreme insecurity being expressed in one particular way; label everything, achieve nothing, derive self-esteem instead from trying to look down upon anyone whom you define as an A instead of an B.

A person who doesn't join a frat because they actually have morals. This person has more intelligence and common sense than any person who has ever joined a frat. They don't pay for fake friends but instead develop positive social skills and make real friends. They don't take shortcuts in life by cheating on tests and actually go to college to learn. Frat losers call these people nerds because they are jealous of how smart and individualistic they are. A GDI actually cares about the feelings of others and understands that life revolves around people other than themselves. They make college campuses a better place and give a better name to their school's reputation. If everyone was a GDI in life, the world would be a nearly perfect place.

Frat Douche: " So how does it feel to be a GDI haha? BTW I am laughing because my frat bro leader told me I'd be cool to him if I did this hahaa. I'm so stuck up and cool cause I am in a frat"
GDI: I actually feel like a real person and not some fake insecure frat douche who can't make decisions for himself".
FD: "But youre a GDI. It stands for something bad like um... Sorry I drank 40 beers yesterday, got rushed to the hospital after falling down a flight of stairs and cant remember anything. I even forgot my name. I think my frat bros can help me remember that later though"
GDI: " You sound like a pathetic moron and total tool. GDI stands for "God Damn Intellectual" a term you frat losers say because you lack intelligence and wish you had some"
FD: Ya I'm a total tool and you are right that is what it stands for. I totally forgot, Im so drunk now. Can I barf on you cause I'm cool that way? I wish I had some intelligence!"
