When something or someone becomes too popular than others, and is given more credits than it deserves to be.

1. The coward's way of saying "I don't personally like it", instead of admitting it.

2. The internet's way of saying "I don't personally like it", instead of admitting it.

3. A misattribution of taste based on confirmation bias, where others are wrong for liking something, whereas the user of the word perceives themselves as "right" otherwise for not liking it.

Example:
a) "One Piece is overrated"

b) "How?"

a) "The sheep that like it are freaking crybabies."

Quite possibly the worst phrase a student section can chant at an athletic event of any type. Though it may be considered an insult to the high-ranked team, by labeling that team as overrated, the chanters are suggesting that their own team has beaten a team that was not very good to begin with.

Example:
Tim - OVERRATED!
Bill - Stop saying that because it makes us look like we never should have beat them. It is putting us down because now it only looks like we are beating a team that shouldn't be ranked this high anyway.

A word that means something is given more hype or credit than it deserves. Oversensitive people take overrated to mean something is bad. No matter how much you explain that it doesn't mean that, they will continue to continue on their rampage.

Example:
Person: (insert name or band here) is overrated.
