Different then nerd, geek, or dork. A dweeb is someone who is intellectual and socially-inept, but also ineffectual and devoid of passion.

Example:
Max, fitting the role of the dweeb, spent all Friday night reading Hartshorne's "Algebraic Geometry" while the others in the dorm wing went downtown for an evening of fun.

This word was accidentally created circa 1973 by a group of high-school students at a northern Indiana school.

The original spelling of the word was 'D-W-E-E-D' and was meant to be a shortened form of dickweed. By using the word dweed, they were able to call their classmates derogatory terms in front of teachers with no repercussions.

Because only a select group of students knew what was actually being said, the word was mispronounced in abundance, causing the word to be spoken as dweeb.

"You're such a dweed."

"I'm not a dweeb!"

1) Type of sweets indistinguishible from "nerdsTM" that used to be popular in the UK during my primary school years ('90's) and that I only hope still exist. Coming in small boxes split into two or three compartments for different flavours (all sour), you either ate them one by one and savoured the bittersweet chemical taste that was sure to dissolve your stomach in ten years, or you ate the whole box at once and risked it dissolving in two days.
