a word that has caused racial controversey over the last few decades and up to current times. It came from the derogatory term for African Amercans "nigger" yet it has a completely different definition than said term.The contemporary meaning of nigga has two distinct definitions. One means friend, brother, etc. and is mostly used in greeting, such as "Yo wassup my nigga", in this case the word nigga is used in a friendly way.On the other hand, nigga can also be an insult. Statements such as "F*ck you bitch ass nigga" and "That nigga stole my iPod" are used when one is angry, frustrated, etc. So it all depends on the mood: good mood and nigga means friend, bad mood and nigga means enemy.Though nigga is used most commonly by African Americans, people of other races use the term as well, though SOME African Americans, not all, feel uncomfortable with others, Caucasians in particular, saying it. In today's society, a white guy can only say "wassup nigga" to a black guy if and only if the black guy is perfectly cool with it. Otherwise, verbal fights may occur.Again, this word isn't to be confused with "nigger" which really means african piece of sh*t. There is absolutely no friendliness in that word. The only ones who say nigger these days are either people making fun of the word (ex: guys like Dave Chappelle) or racists who seriously need to get shot.

Nigga is a word which evolved from the derogative term "nigger" used by slave master to make mock of mental ability of black slave. Moreover, Tupac defined the distinction between the two with some elements of dishounesty - He said:

The TRUTH, not the FACT, of the matter is that:

A word that formed from the derogatorative word "nigger". This word is used among many people to say stuff such as "homie", "bro", "friend", "dawg", etc.. It is mainly used within the African-American culture and MOST (not all, I am African-American and don't get mad about it unless it is being used like "nigger". I even get mad when black's use it. =\) get mad when someone without darker skin uses it, but it is also widely used by many other races and cultures.
Example:
Black Person: Whatsup cracka?
White Person: Nothin' my nigga!
Black Person: What the fuck man! You don't be comin around here callin' me a nigga and shit!
Me: Shut the fuck up nigga! I don't get so offended by this shit, and as you can tell.. I'm black!

To the people that think it's okay to say it but not for others to say it: don't be a hypocrite, if it bad for others to say it then it bad for you to say it as well, period. Nobody loves double standards, nobody.

To the people that think they should be able to use it because others are using it and get upset because it's alright for others to use it but not you:
The term was used in the past in a rasict context and people have a good sense of history so don't use it, even if you hear other people use it in a nonracial context and assume that sense you mean it that way it will be accepted that way.
Example:
1. I will take a principled stand to not say the word nigga or else I wil be seen as a hypocrite.

2. I will take a principled stand to not say the word nigga because I will be seen as rasict when I am not.

3 Hypocrite:whatsup my nigga
Seemingly Racist person: nothing much my nigga
Hypocrite: You can't say that.
Seemingly Racist person: doesn't that make you a hypocrite?
Hypocrite: Why yes it does, but when you use it you sound like a racist.
Seemingly Racist person: Well I guess we're both misguided in using it, we shouldn't assume that everyone understands what we mean.
Hypocrite: I agree, and I think everyone needs to lighten up. No one is really bad unless they feel they as though they can be a hypocrite and that's not bad, or they feel that they can use rasict terms and not expect someone to get mad at them.

A word often used by black gangsta rappers to address each other, or just refer to each other in a brotherly way. And for some reason it's okay for them to use the word and no one else.

If any other race uses the word, especially white people, it's grounds for war, because the definition is supposedly inferred to mean "you are beneath me and meant to serve me."

Of course, it's completely "fine" for the niggas to refer to ANY woman, no matter what the color of her skin, as a bitch or a ho' - which is also used to imply that " you are beneath me, and meant to serve me."

You can't say the 'n' word on the radio or TV, for fear of offending a particular race. But you hear 'bitch' and ho' all the time, regardless of the women it might offend...
Example:
gangsta1: Yo, nigga! What's up!

gangsta2: Life is good, my brother! I had the time with one sweet bitch at the club. And my bitch back home? She knows when it's time to put out, You know what I'm sayin'?
