A term originating from
the United States Navy, used to describe disgruntled senior enlisted members. Also used to describe someone who has sea experience from a prior
deployment, for whom the romanticized idea of ship life is gone, and replaced with
sea salt.
Example:
Sailor: You got caught sleeping during general quarters, what happened?
Shitbag: I got yelled at for hours by some salty old
senior chief.

the combination of being both
sour and
bitter
In chemistry,
acids are usually described as being sour, whereas bases are described as being bitter; the neutralization of an acid and a base produces a salt, and thus, salty.
Example:
The folks: That
old man Jenkins was so bitter about our parking in front of his mail box. I've never seen a more sour expression...
You: Oh wait, so he was like salty?
The folks: ohhh...
hon, is that how you talk during job interviews?

Military Definition - A senior member who has been around for
awhile, many times referring to the
washed out look of old
utilities worn through the years and several deployments.

No joke,
Baghdad in 2004 was intense.

Sergeant your so salty!
Salty Dude - Yeah, now GET THE FUCK OUT
