A term that when prefixed to a statement does more damage than good. Its purpose is to state that you are about to tell the truth about something. However, If one has to use this statement, it can be concluded that when that same person does not use this statement then they are lying, because when they are telling the truth, they state that they are about to tell the truth by saying, "I’m not gonna lie..."So this statement, in effect, when used, devalues any potential credibility one once had as an honest and truthful person when they are not using the statement.It is synonymous with: to tell you the truth, honestly, actually, as a matter of fact, in fact , truthfully

One of the gayest expressions commonly used today. Often used before stating something obvious or something that no one would bother to lie about. This expression is over used and almost always makes the user look like a douche.
Example:
-I'm not gonna lie, that movie was terrible.

-I know, why would someone lie about that?

I'm not gonna lie, this statement is the most overused phrase in probably every high school and and college.

The phrase is used when the speaker wants to inform the listeners that he/she is not lying. The phrase can be taken two different ways with the listener; A. The speaker could be lying, but he is just saying 'I'm not gonna lie' just so i don't suspect that he is in fact lying or B. The speaker is genuinely telling the truth.

If you are planning on using a catch phrase, I'm not gonna lie, if you use this phrase I will beat you with a stick.
Example:
A. *Talking to someone with a really ugly sweater* "I'm not gonna lie, your sweater looks really awesome."

B. *Talking to someone with some really awesome shoes* "I'm not gonna lie, you got some tight kicks."
